Colour Schemes #Watercolour #Acryl
Thanks for the course! :)
I used the medium Watercolour [edit and for the 2nd run Acryl]. At first it was a bit difficult, as in with watercolours you work from light to dark. And your version with gouache doesn't need to consider this.
What I learned:
- Favorit: I really like the Analogus Version to paint. Well red isn't my absolute favorite, but the technique with 3 "like-minded" colours next to each other, is something I look forward to dive more into.
- Fascinated: I was fascinated how the Gamut Mask turned out! Usually I like bright colours, but the dulled versions turned out super nice!
- Difficult: I found the Tetradic the most difficult to point. There are 4 different "base colours" to choose from.
- Value study... value study... value study... hihi :) afterwards I made a quick value study in pencil, which helped me more to understand the different layers (forground/middleground/background). It reminded me, to * a l w a y s* do a quick value study upfront! It's 5-10 Minutes super well invested!
- I'm not into Gouache/Acryls/Oils etc... ;-) but somehow I was a tiny bit jealous when I saw you mixing the colours! It's so pure and easy to add more colour... when I mix watercolour (like an Orange) and I'd like to add a hint more of yellow - mmh - okay, now a hint of red - mhh too much - more yellow... it the end it always gets watered down and it isn't anymore a strong orange.
- Adding the little colour dots, next to the little painting, helped me to quickly understand, how many colours are involved.
- The medium Watercolour took me more time to paint as I had to layer more. You were pretty quick with Gouache :).
- Instead of white (as you used it in Gouache) I used water :)
- It's the first time, that I do a little painting in 8 different ways!
- Even tough the exercise looks simple, I highly recommend to do it! :D You'll learn more than you think.
If I'd do this exercise with watercolour again:
1. Wash for the Sky + Mountains together (let it dry)
2. Lighter Wash for the Middleground till the bottom of the painting (let it dry)
3. Add another layer on the mountains + the part where the tree stands (let it dry)
4. Add another layer for the bushes (at the bottom of the mountain) + make a super dark layer for the tree & trunk.

January 2023 - I did the exercise in Acryl as well :).
It was my first experience with acryl since 20 (?) years - hihi.
I liked it too and it was easier to paint with acryl than with watercolour. The Gamut Mask I enjoyed very much!
