I started with a few random objects for a sketch:

I then altered the perspective a little bit, made the vase a bit bigger, changed the shape of the bottle, etc. I loved your explanation of the colour palettes; I used that to pick out a slightly retro colour palette:

I decided to skip the text on the book, and fill that space with a textured brush instead. Final result:

I love making still life illustrations like this and practice it regularly, but this class gave me even more insight on how to improve my compositions and how to create contrast. Thanks for all the great tips!
