Masked Characters
Exercise 1

Exercise 2

Exercise 3

Character's Ideas
Concept: if vampires di not want to feed directly from people either because of a moral imperative or social convention then they would need to wear masks to try and combat their senses (the sense of smell being tightly linked with the desire to eat).
Moodboard
Starting by gathering different images that would link to vampires or a impressionistic fashion style.

Next I started by sketching very simple character outline using the same body template.

After which I took the ideas I linked the most and used them to generate the characters. Using simple sketching to add value to give me an idea of how the different clothes will stand off each other focusing simply on contrast values.

Character Line Art

Character Flat Colours
I created two character palletes that are mostly just inverted colour pallets, only really adding green to the first character.

Character Final
Similar to the sketch phase I took the colours I likes the most and used those to generate final designs.

The first character was coloured per-layer while the second had all the shading on a single layer (the light the same). I do think the second shading system worked slightly better but would work better if the colouring was pushed even further. Using a darker shadow colour paired with the red highlight, it would mean lightening the darker colours so the shading can be seen more easily. While red colour could be made more prominent.
Another option I think would be to exaggerate the body silhouettes even more, such as the width of the torso and hips. Also increasing the eye sizes if only to make them more easily readable.
