Really great tutorial. I just was little lost how do the ambient Light and which layer mode use. I really would appreciate more information about layer mode and what use for what type of light and shadow. Thank you for your videos I really like them. 

My second attempt.  I think it is really better. The colours are more calm and I think the pear look more like 3D. But I thinks something still missing...
