For this project, I decided I wanted to properly cement the design of an old vampire character of mine. He's a wealthy nobleman who was born during an especially violent feud with another family. He has a very peculiar sense of style and I wanted to capture that in his design.

Lumin is very short so I wanted to raise him up on a slight heel. I thought he would either wear a structured garment like a wide belt or an underbust corset for support. I abandoned the look of the upturned collar for a closer choker-style collar to make the bob of his gold hair more distinct.

The more embellishments I can get away with on his clothes the better but I might choose to go extra detailed and gaudy for more event-specific clothing. I was going for a pinched diamond shape on his legs and if he were to wear a coat it would probably flare out at the bottom to mirror his hair and where his pants flare outwards.

I blocked in some colours playing around with what I knew I wanted first.

His powers relate to bending sunlight and manipulating fire so I wanted to make his hair a golden colour. His eyes are a piercing blue like the blood in his veins his skin has a purply pink tone to it but its incredibly pale so I darkened the gold in his hair.

Lumin is fond of pastel colours so inspired by china blue and riffing off his eye colour I coloured his pants and shirt. Purple is loosely complimentary to yellow so I gave him lavender sleeves and stockings. to balance him out his heels are gold with dainty blue bows.

 

As this isn't the sort of comic where characters constantly wear the same clothes I'm still trying to work out the best way to be super identifiable at a glance. I'll probably have him favour certain colours and silhouettes.
