Desert Highway

I really enjoyed this class by James White and the energy he brings throughout his creative process.

For this project I was looking to incorporate a highway overpass going into another realm from the desert. The highway overpass itself is in Toronto, Canada and was taken from a photo I had shot earlier on before I embarked on this project. As the highway enters through the void its appearance changes based on the environment within.

Within the void, I wanted to have a glowing sun, setting in the background along with a few buildings in the lower part. The birds were added later on as a finishing touch to the scene within the void.

Outside the void, the desert and background sky was created using James White's methods taught throughout the class.

First things first, are the sketches (although I had already knew in my mind how I wanted it to look). I started with these four sketches that I drew using an iPad (I like to go paperless)

The next phase of this project, Illustrator.

Creating these vectors in illustrator was the easy part.

I wanted to try this piece with the CN Tower but it didn't fit in very well and was taken out.
