Impressionist Orchid with Rachael Broadwell

I let it dry out a bit overnight and then blotted again before I continued. I’m still not quite sure if I’m finished - the vase was particularly tricky for me to capture in a good style. My painting is a combination of Rachael’s orchid and my own orchid which sat in front of me for reference throughout. I used Winsor & Newton oil paints but didn’t have the same red so ended up with a mauve rather than a pink orchid. This is my 4th effort at an oil painting and definitely my best yet which I attribute to the teachers style and explanations. Once I started this class I realised that there were other tutorials by Rachael so hope to broaden my knowledge further and work out my sticky canvas problem. I barely used any medium for the first priming red and I blotted it as advised and yet immediately I ran into trouble with coverage of my dark background. One of the attached photos shows how thinly it went on despite not being mixed with any further medium at all. They are all artist quality paints and it was a proper primed oil board.

However, as a real art beginner, I see progress in my work and enjoyed following along so much.
