Oh! That’s great! I love my Apple Pencil, it works really well. :) If you already merged all the layers you still can paint the shadows over the gray area. Follow this steps: 1. Tap on the “Selection” tool. Tap On “Automatic” (at the bottom of the screen), then tap and hold on the gray area and slide your finger to the left or right to adjust the threshold of the selection. Lift your finger once you only have the gray area selected. 2. Create a new layer on top of your illustration. Tap on the layer and, when the menu appears, tap “Mask”. The mask layer will restrict the painting area to your selection. 3. Change the blend mode of the new layer to Multiply. 4. Finally, in the layer we just attach a layer mask to, use the same teal and the same ocre that you use on the bird to paint the shadows. The multiply blend mode will make those colors look darker. Hi Rebecca, You do know how to draw! But, as you said, you are a rebel, lol! To create shadows super fast, you just have to create a layer on top of your illustration, paint the shadows and tap on the “N” that you see next to the checkbox. That “N” means Normal, or what is the same No “Blend Mode” (Effect) applied. When you tap on that "N" you will see many options or blending modes that you can apply to your layer. Scroll up and down and more of them will appear. For creating shadows, we will use mainly “Multiply”. This blend mode will darken the colors of all the layers underneath. Give it a try and show me how your bird looks. ;)

And today my Apple Pencil arrived , I was using a 3rd party knock off before.. so I am excited to keep going.

I already collapsed my bird layers so I can't seem to pull them back apart to try to adjust the shadow. I did do the reflection and use some of those on that

I wasn't sure how to add the shadows so they were transparent. I kept trying to slow down the video to see what you did, but couldn't figure it out. All in all I feel good about the outcome for a first time user and drawer of birds.
