I have a more modern calligraphy style. I usually do Blackladder ITC.
When selecting the paper, I tried looking for different colour and texture so I can try working on different materials. Ink is also something I chose as well. for black ink I used sumi ink. Glittered or metallic I used powder pigment or pans. White other colours (pink and red) was gouache which was my first time using.
Some obstacles I've encountered were as follows:
writing on textured paper - the Black envelope was so hard to write on since the paper is really textured. Made it harder because of the ink I was using. It wasn't as opaque as I wanted so I had to come back to most letters every time.
measurement and alignment - I thought it would be quick and easy. But no wonder they charge extra for centering which takes more time to do. Having no laser guide or lift box meant I had to ruler/measure everything if I want a guide. Mail merging on Word really helped me out as well as printing out sample font sizes to determine how big I want my writing to be.
one word/ line then I'm done - then I make a mistake. boom. redo the entire thing again.
timing - I was trying to push myself to make things quicker and even timed myself. but just measuring alone take 5-7mins of my time already.
After doing everything, of course I felt accomplished. I felt that eventhough it's just 20 pcs, I think I had improved my writing and my pace by envelop 5-8.
On my next envelopes, I would definitely play around with mixing the letter sizes.
