I went to Little Brook Farm in New York just before the holidays to volunteer and shoot some photos. Little Brook is a horse rescue farm with over 94 horses and a hundred plus cats. Most horses, retired amish draft horses, price winning show and race horses, family pets, and minis were abandoned. Most were bound for slaughter and those that weren't were often found starving to death in back fields or even locked in barns.

I know horses and love them but found the task at hand overwhelming, so many horses with so much need. But the farm while falling apart in many ways, as all the money goes to the animals, also was beautiful, and the animals themselves are finding their way back to health and hope. It was amazing to see and shoot.
