I am from the land of Chip and Joanna Gaines, Baylor University, and the birthplace of Dr. Pepper - Waco, Texas.  Even though I don't live in Texas anymore, it will always be home to me.  If you're from Texas, you understand what I mean.  This is why I wanted to illustrate a map of my hometown.  There are tons of good memories from my life growing up there, and I wanted a way to commemorate that.

 

BRAINSTORM

This process was super fun for me!  It was great to think about all the things that make Waco special to me.  I went to college at Baylor.  I took my engagement photos at the Suspension Bridge.  Dr. Pepper will always be my favorite soda...  SO many memories!  Plus, there's Chip and Jo.  Waco is cool now, y'all.

SKETCHES

I love the urban sketching style!  I like that I have a lot of messy and crooked lines.  I think it adds character.

 

FINAL MAP

I think the coloring process is the hardest for me.  Obviously, I chose a different color palette in the end.  Oh well!  That's part of the fun, right?  I mean, who gets it perfect the first time anyway?  (except Michelangelo... guy's a genius...) 

I'm so happy with the end product!  I can't wait to get it printed!
