Use collage techniques to make illustrations, spark your creativity, and just have a little fun!

Skillshare Premium Members are invited to join us on Tuesday, January 26th at 3:00 PM EST for a live online Zoom session with illustrator Jing Wei all about how she uses collage as part of her creative practice. The session will run for approximately 60 minutes. Click the “Remind Me” button above to register!

Jing is a Brooklyn-based illustrator known for her surreal style that's influenced by printmaking. She has experience working with clients like Airbnb, MailChimp and New York Times and takes on a range of projects from advertising to editorial to surface and packaging design. She’s already taught more than 6,000 students on Skillshare and is excited to share more of her creative techniques with the community!

This live session will include:

  • A discussion of why Jing loves getting hands-on with collage whenever she can, and how she uses this analog practice to inform her digital work.
  • An exploration of the materials you need to create beautiful collages, including a tutorial for making your own decorative paper.
  • Some prompts to help inspire your college work, and a chance to create live along with Jing.

This class is great for artists of all types, ages, and levels—really anyone who just wants to explore a new creative practice and spend time making something beautiful! While Jing will go over her favorite materials during the session, here are some things you might want to have on hand in order to participate:

  • A variety of different colorful, patterned, and/or textured paper
  • Some blank paper and drawing or painting materials (e.g., crayons, markers, pastels, paints) for creating your own paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or other paper glue
  • A bone folder or something else to help flatten your paper (e.g., a ruler, spoon, or butter knife)

Throughout the session, you’ll be encouraged to work alongside Jing and ask questions. Feel free to add questions in advance of the event using the discussion forum below, or bring them live to the Zoom session. We look forward to seeing you soon!
