About this Live Session

Hey guys! My name is Yasmina, I'm a self taught artist that specializes in various media. So far, I've made 19 Skillshare classes and am so excited to share everything I learned about the class creation process with you! Whether you've got questions about how to choose a topic, the best way to outline, or picking a good class project, whatever the question, just ask it below and I'll answer it on January 12th.

Making your first class isn't easy, it's a steep learning curve, but once you get the gist of it, it gets easier with every class. Good class planning is essential for a well made class, but everyone will have a different process that works for them. My process varies from class to class, but this is usually how it goes:

  1. Pick a topic by either being inspired or brainstorming through mind mapping and rating different class ideas from one to five.
  2. Even if I know the topic extremely well, I do more research and collect inspiration.
  3. I start by making a rough outline of the class. At this stage I also plan what the class project will be, which is usually simple and approachable. I also plan which parts will be written first then video recorded second, which parts are video recorded first, then written based on the video, or if any parts will be real-time video/audio.
  4. I write the parts that are written first, then leave it be for a day, and come back to it the next day to revise.
  5. Then I make a list of everything that needs to be recorded for the written parts, and in general, and record the whole class within a couple of days.
  6. The last step is to record the audio for the written parts and edit the class to perfection.

Also, keep in mind that every class is different. Some classes take a month or more to make, while others a week. But the planning stage is always essential. Don't rush it, and let the class evolve organically. I hope this sneak peek into my process helps. You can leave your questions below, and I'll answer them on January 12th at 1 p.m. EST. I'll see you then! :)
