Watercolor Wildlife Artist

     Currently based out of Tennessee, Joy Neasley is a watercolor artist specializing in Tennessee wildlife and nature.  She enjoys painting in the outdoor natural sunlight with a small pallette of quality watercolor paints, white gouache, and 100% cotton, archival HP watercolor paper.  

     Many ask if she has painted all her life.  The answer is no.  Born in East Texas, as a teenager Joy would often disappear to a nearby farm field to read, write, and draw.  By the time she was 19, Joy let drawing take a backseat to motherhood and family life.  It was not until 2009 that she began drawing again.  From 2009 she focused on graphite, charcoal, and carbon pencils.  It was not until after experiencing two strokes in summer of 2013 that she started painting (in 2015) and moved beyond the black and white of the pencils.  Her doctor recommended she learn something new as part of her rehabilitation from the strokes.      In 2015, Joy began learning from YouTube tutorials, Anna Mason’s School of Watercolor online classes, and later, Dianne Southerland’s Botanical Illustration online class.  Check out her work on her website and shop her Etsy Store.  Now, you can find Joy on Patreon too.

     Combining her love of the outdoors in the natural sunlight, and her newfound love of watercolor, Joy began to focus on wildlife and nature she sees on the many Tennessee greenways and trails.  Between the trails and the numerous State Parks within the state, Joy has a lifetime of inspiration for her paintings.
