You have to get your hands "dirty. "

FREEFORM

In my "freeform" attempt, I used all the colors in one of my palettes. When I finished, I wasn't too excited about what I created. So, I figured I'd do some drawing. What came out surprised me.

You have to get your hands

I need to explore this process more.

PLANNED

I am still wrestling with this process. I took a watercolor abstract course that starts by having the student create a drawn design. Unfortunately, I usually ended up with something completely different than what I "wanted" to paint.

This attempt allowed me to experiment with the "thickness" of color. I know, you don't apply more wet-on-wet as it's drying, or you get blooms. But you can add "dry-on-wet" and retain a decent edge without blooms.

I tried a couple of thumbnails, which is an interesting approach—very few courses I've taken use thumbnails at all. And the ones I took that did were by an illustrator and an architect. I now have a better understanding of how to address this process and will definitely work on it further. Thank you for that!

This was an interesting course, and I plan to finish up a couple more by Marie-Noëlle in the coming days.
