Watercolour style test

Watercolour style test - student project

I tried out two main styles with a different image. I hadn't used charcoal pencil before and I really love this effect. I didn't have a smudge stick so I just rolled up some paper tightly and use that - it seems to have worked ok. I wasn't as bold with the application of the charcoal or with the micron pen in that one as Nina was ... I'm always nervous because I know you can't really undo it (well, maybe you can with charcoal). I liked the charcoal because it helps cover up any problems with the watercolour application. I am finding it hard to get colours smooth but will keep practising. I used Arches Hot Press paper which gets the best result I think.

In another of Nina's classes she suggests using a sepia / brown colour micron pen for the outline which might have been better here but I didn't have one ... I'll try it another time.
