Studio Fu : Vérifier les tons avec votre téléphone

It can be so tricky to see tone without a little help. My phone rarely gets used for phone calls- always photographing work in progress, checking tone, and more. My iPhone is probably up there with my most important art tools! Crazy, but true. Love the subject of your painting, and if I can make a suggestion to help you: Your colour choices are lovely but a little flat looking. I'd like to see a little tonal depth added to the birds to improve their 3D look. Here's what I'd do: Decide on where the light source is and then deepen the hues on the shadow side to give a little roundness to the birds. There will likely be some shadow between their bodies, so deepening the colour of the rear bird where the front overlaps would give a natural sense of depth and dimension. Remember, you can add in layers, so try a little at a time to get comfortable with it. You might want to build a "dummy" work to practice on before taking what you learn to your birds.
