It's been so fun to explore these techniques for creating a variety of characters. For the robot I sketched him out and then created the character then built his background inspired by him. 

For the cowboy I created the background then created the character to go with it, adjusting the background to help him stand out. This project was creating more intuitively, letting my decorative papers inspire the character that they turned into.

 

For the butterfly, I had the idea to create a butterfly-esque creature, constructed it, then determined what type of background to give it and added details in ink and brushpen to the background and butterfly as it came together.

Then I wanted to just play and see what creature emerged. I love the play of decorative collage papers in this bird creature.
