Tom’s Odd Bodies!

Tom’s Odd Bodies! - student project

01 Action Figures

I started quite rough and refined in the second iteration. I decided to refine once more in Procreate, in Panel 3 below.

02 Action Figures from Memory

First I drew the action figure from Ex. 1 completely from memory (Panel 1), and then I refined it in a second tracing (Panel 2).

03 Page of Poses

First sketch was rough! My last refinement was done in Procreate. Looks like I forgot to fill in some hair in the top right guy!

04 People in Shapes

I found a basic layout that worked in my third iteration (Panel 3), and then added some different details in 4 and 5. in the end, I'm most happy with the fourth iteration (Panel 4).

05 Cutouts

I used a few different sheets of coloured paper for this one. I taped these guys to my studio wall to keep me company.

06 Exaggeration

I started with the telescope in a foreshortened front-view (not shown) but didn't like it so I started again with the telescope in side view. This worked well. In my first iteration (Panel 1) I focused on wrapping the figure around the telescope in an interesting way. I'm thinking mostly of composition at this stage. Next, I cleaned up the lines, worked out how things overlapped, and added some details in the figure and clothing (Panel 2).

BONUS PROJECT!

I really liked how my Exaggeration project turned out, so I went with that for my Bonus Project.
