TheThumbprint: Experimental Figure Drawing
Hello! I've done a few of Brent Eviston's courses on figure drawing, but, for me, this was the most challenging. It really pushed me out of my comfort zone. Although I don't think this will be my preferred way of perceiving human anatomy, it was nice to try to view it from a different perspective and add that approach to my artistic toolbox. Note, all these drawings are digital in Procreate, so they are less organic feeling than using an actual pen and paper.
These are some of my favorites studies from the class. (And, Brent, I tried using longer lines in a few like you asked me about from a previous class, just to try it out!).
The rough beginnings of straight line sketching.
Trying to get a feel for the position and emphasizing foreshortening without much detail. This was so very, very difficult for me.
Subconsciously a Picasso-esque inspired one, maybe here? Idk. I kinda like it.
The course was teaching about the volume, the circular 3D feeling of the object. Again, I struggled. I think my drawings came out kind of like marshmallow people. They're cool, but definitely not in my wheelhouse.
Here are a few more from the final reels. At this point I was a little more in control of my exaggeration, compromising within myself that nothing was too far exaggerated. I think the practices before made my figures by this point look less rigid.
WAY HARDER THAN IT LOOKS. Dang. I learned a lot. The techniques were very well explained in the course though, which helped a lot. I'm not a very expressive, experimental artist, but still glad I stretched my skills here.

Happy illustrating, everyone! Thanks again for the course, Brent!
