When thinking about a visual masterpiece, my mind always brings up the recent “Spider-man:Across the Spider-verse” movie.This movie has received so many praise, and it’s not even suprising. “Spider-man:Across the Spider-verse” shows us a struggling main character dealing with a global choice of saving either his father or- the “world”. Cominng back to this movie each time, you  notice that every scene is delibirately telling you a story, and forshadowing future situations. In my extensive reserch,I want to showcase the impostance of visual story and how this movie  does a great job at that.

 

Throughtout the movie, two colors keep popping up, red and movie. Red symbolizing energy, passion, danger, and the intense drive to save others, while blue: stability, responsibility, trust, and the grounded moral duty of being a hero. In one of the first scenes in this movie, where Gwen Stacy, also known as Spider-Woman, revealed her secret identity to her dad, a cop chasing Spider-Woman to charge for murder, Gwen’s color pallete was extesivelly being red and pink. Showing her passion for saving others and her true self, the Spider-Woman. And in the split scene, we can see her dad’s color turning purple, being in the moment of deciding between his two choices: his daughter(red) or his duty(blue). The next scene showcases him choosing his duty as a cop, when we see him turning b;ue and telling her that she has a right to remain silent.

 

These contradicting decisions keep showing later, when Miles, our main character, has to choose whether to stay in his dimensions, the night blue sky keeping citizens asleep, or take a leap and follow Gwen into a bright red portal. By taking that leap, he inevitably found the truth about his origin and “disrupted’ the canon event of another Spider-man. He makes everyone and himself qustion, whether something is inevitable or do we have a choice in our destiny. Whether everything is stable and determined(blue) or we adre the one writing our own history(red). By choosing the latter, he shakened the whole multiverse and opposed everyone that chosed otherwise.

 

One of the last greatest visual storytelling methods was when Miles was sent to his universe. But most viewers could already understand the second he was there that this… was not HIS universe. The pallete of his surroundings changed from warm, pastel and deep colors to bright, neon, and mainly being green and purple, the colors of the original spider that bit him. Further condirming this statement with him glitching and him seeing his late Uncle right infront of him. Who he will later will be abducted by.

 

This movie should be a clear example for future films and animatiion to use and look upt to.
