I have always found it very challenging to compose an original composition but this course really helped to break down the steps and fundamental concepts.  For this image I was inspired by the Iva’s prompt ‘Finnish deer’ but was also greatly inspired by my time spent in Denmark during Christmas time, the beautiful white birch trees, white lights and the touches of bright red. I decided to add the little girl, inspired by the Scandinavian mythology of the Nisse for additional interest. In the end the image evolved from what was intended to be a simple concept and design into something more detailed which reminds me very much of my winters in Canada/Scandinavia.

I took many of the points in Iva’s lesson and tried to incorporate it in the piece, Focal point - being the more detailed brightly coloured deer and girl. A triangular composition scheme, rule of threes, leading energy lines as shown in the picture above, negative space, visual weight and also a limited colour palette that i tried to balance with the little berries.

Overall this project evolved in a totally different direction then intended but i am happy with the results. Thank you Iva for a great course!
