T O P 3 Design Niches

T O P   3     Design Niches - student project

Hello all, and BIG THANKS to Lindsay for this class!

I triple-read all questions and took it as serious as possible to answer my very honest and very best.

Some questions, however, seemed difficult and made me scratch my head in "I guess so..." or "Maybe" or "If I would spend each day in vector program would I actually get comfy with Illustrator and fall in love or throw old PC out of the window in frustration and switch back to Photoshop..."

As I'm overthinking some of the questions (as I often do with different things), I'm realizing that the main problem is having too little knowledge and expertise (or not having any in some cases) in certain areas which makes it even harder to decide.

I'm not completely new to design field but definitely have plenty of room to grow. As I still discover my own style and areas of interest, I found this course and questionnaire very helpful in order to narrow down the focus and pick more targeted direction to go (there is SO MUCH to learn out there and I find myself to spread out thin all the time).

Here is my top 3:

#1 Pattern&Illustration (because I love to doodle in Procreate and Seep & Dream to open an online store on Creative Market to sell my digital goods)

#2 Social Media (because this is mostly been my main focus at both my recent and previous 9-5 jobs, this area I'm most comfortable at)

#3 Branding (because aside from selling my digital goods I also want to work for an agency on a variety of client projects that will open up freelance opportunities in a future).

Next Steps?

Nail it with Adobe Illustrator already (this time on Mac, Yay!), refresh Design Theory, Color Theory and Typography;

learn Adobe Dimensions and get more familiar with Animation, Video Editing;

draw more! Maybe enter a drawing challenge or practice handlettering; stop being scared of watercolor and mess with real paints and paper;

practice building a brand and learn more about package design;

re-build my Portfolio site to land a job I want!

My older projects are at tkcreatedesign.myportfolio.com

and more recent passion work is here: tkcreate.myportfolio.com.

If you have any class recommendations or other feedback I'd love to hear it.

Thanks again!
