Sunset Safari

I spent my first full day back in quite a while with a paintbrush in hand, and who better to share it with than you, Will! Your free-flowing style of letting the paint fall where it may was just what I needed to get my creativity flowing again. It wasn’t easy, though, as I never seem to be quick enough to get everything down before the paper dries, which creates valleys. Nevertheless, the experience was filled with enough challenges that I learned as I went along.

The elephants were the easy part, but as you always say, it’s sometimes easier to paint with detail than to be loose and carefree! Using the sponge to create the tree was a technique I don't recall using in one of your classes before, so that was extra fun.

Thanks again for another great class! You have been busy offering some fantastic sessions, giving me I had plenty of options to choose from for a while. Haha! Project #1, project #2 below

It was definitely a fun subject, which is why I wanted to give it another try. Wet-on-wet backgrounds are challenging for me, so I thought I would practice again. The results turned out differently but not necessarily better or worse. I probably prefer the water ripples in the first painting, while I like the tree overhang in the second. The silhouettes came out better in the second piece, but I wasn't disappointed with the first one. My main focus was on the background washes, and while they are both different, I still struggled with both; on the second one the sky was easier to blend this time, but the water more challenging….lol…However, it was worth the effort to do it again!
