Using the path tool to outline the shapes, how it works with the layers panel and understanding which path needs to come on top in terms of arrangement was a bit challenging for me. Following along made it easy and I finally used the drawing provided in the .psd file to begin the painting part.

 

Digital painting seemed intimidating as I thought it was the kind of brush that majorly influenced the painting. It was fascinating that with just one basic brush such painterly effect could be achieved!
