Stinging Nettle

Stinging Nettle - student project

We recently greatly expanded our garden and the idea of sustainable gardening has greatly interested me. Adding dirt, mulch and compost can be one of the more expensive areas of gardening so we have been experimenting with growing plants specifically to enrich soil, compost and mulch with. Wheat, lemongrass and comfrey are a few we are trying but pictured here are Stinging Nettle seedlings. Nettle is easy to grow, to the point it can become invasive if you aren’t cutting it back or keeping it from going to seed. It attracts butterflies and can be used to make a liquid fertilizer as well as adding to your compost heap.
