Space Kitty

For my class project I wanted to incorporate a bunch of the different things that I've learned up to this point. I wanted to build everything up from scratch and create my own landscape loosely following the Spacey theme that we did during the class. I went to a convention recently and picked up a sticker of this cool alien cat and it's been on my water bottle since. I thought he would be the perfect subject for this little animation.

With that I modeled him out and gave him a simple rig. My attempt was to have this be a lower gravity area so whenever he walked and bounced it had more hangtime. Narratively the UFO was off screen and saves the little cat from falling in the hole completely. I do think I was at the mercy of time on this one. Looking back I would like to have added more subtle animations and messed with the curves of the graph editor a little bit more. I also didn't incorporate any of the squash and stretch that we talked about in class. I think as a result the animation comes off a little bit stiff but I'm happy with how this turned out after building all of it up.

One thing I had trouble with is I had the face as a separate object to the rest of the model. No matter what I tried doing whenever I would move the neck or back bone the face would not move with it. Not sure why it didn't. I tried parenting and joining. I know that wasn't part of the project but I would love some feedback on that if you have any tips. One of my goals out of this week of classes I'm going to take is to fully model and rig characters.

Let me know if you have any general feedback as well. I wish I had more time on this but I have more courses to take haha before the week ends. Thank you for the awesome class and project!
