Here is the painting I created as a Sample Project for my new class! I didn't want to be distracted by the face, so instead of painting a classic portrait I went for this braid with only the neck and the back of the person showing.

I started by sketching a rough shape for the hairstyle (1). I then quickly detailed the main locks of hair -- in this case, they formed the braid (2). In the third picture, I started detailing each lock of hair with the three main colors for this hairstyle : light yellow, dark ochre and dark brown (3). I used the "Overlay" blending mode to add shadows and highlights (4) and then I detailed some loose strands of hair to make it look more realistic (5).
