Room of Me

Room of Me - image 1 - student project

Messy, but no time for careful re-do, and this one speaks some truth. The area rug has a design on it including birds which were added before I even added another character. So, they are not real birds but only a design in the rug. The chair is almost like the real life chair in my family room, a large, red wing-back chair that's cushy/comfy. The other character turned out to be almost vaporous in a way, but I kept working on it, and that's where I put extra attention at the end. I think it's a muse figure, and she spontaneously issues forth what looks like confetti, but it's inspiration, wisdom or ideas. That being was the one big surprise for me. The vase is heavy, but she holds it and offers it to me (although it represents my partner ) -- tall, green (eco-conscious?) vase, sort of erudite and steady holding flowers. The window, surprisingly, is akin to the living room window in my house. In spring I see all sorts of floral bushes and trees outside.

We down-sized from our lovely family home a few years back, and I have been exceptionally unhappy where I live now. Still, there must be some satisfaction in my life now that I am doing art again (with a muse!) and have chosen items for my picture that are also present in my real life. Still, that muse holds the vase (partner?) and presents me with something I describe withg words that are akin to my husband. The only real fantasy here, besides thge muse, who is probably real in a way, are the birds woven into the design of the carpet.

For me, much of this reminds me of spring as winter hits in reality. Maybe I can conclude that some hope resides in my heart.

Liked this exercise. First time I have ever done a real-time quick sketch along with a Skillshare class, so I'm ok with it looking like I drew it in kindergarten.

Best to all seekers, judy
