Refuse to Sink

Refuse to Sink - student project

For my project, I chose the phrase “Refuse to Sink”. (I was in a nautical mood.)

I’m not very good at remembering to document my work in progress, so I don’t have many decent photos showing my process. Here are some of my random sketches.

I used a 6x9 linoleum block. To transfer the design to the block, I just used the final pencil version of my sketch and rubbed the bejeezus out of it. I had decent results, but there were spots that didn’t transfer as clearly as I wanted, so I went over a few places with a pen to clarify lines before I started carving.

Once I was done carving, I printed it on my letterpress.

This was a fun class and I really enjoyed working on this project!
