Recall or Risk

Recall or Risk - student project

The clock on the office wall was ticking... 4:45 PM. We had exactly fifteen minutes before the trucks departed for distribution centers across the country. On my desk lay the report for a new batch of dairy products that had just arrived at the central warehouse.

I noticed a tiny discrepancy in the transport temperature. It was a gray area, barely one degree above the limit, but it was enough to make my palms sweat. Internal doubt started gnawing at me:

"If I pull the entire batch, we lose millions and face empty shelves right before the weekend. If I let it go, I risk the consumer trust we’ve spent decades building."

The stakes couldn’t have been higher. One wrong call meant either a massive financial hole or, far worse, compromised consumer safety. My team waited, their eyes fixed on me as the clock moved relentlessly.

"Stop the loading," I said, my voice sounding steadier than I felt. "Better an empty shelf than a broken promise."

That evening, as I stared at the empty fridges in our local store, I knew it was the hardest, yet most vital decision of my career. Profits can be recovered; a reputation cannot.
