Project Submission: My Approach to Project Management
One of the major takeaways that I learned from this course is the need to think like a project manager before taking on any tasks. This changed my my thought process and helped me come to the realization that I should always take some time to understand the purpose of each task, the task's expected outcome, and the project management approach.
What struck me the most was the concept that the early definition of a project helps in saving time during implementation has had an impact on me. It is imperative to really break down a project into smaller portions and be clear and thorough about why you desire to achieve results.
Additionally, communication with stakeholders cannot be dismissed whatsoever when managing projects. Even brief notifications may prevent conflicts.
Lastly, being aware of potential risks involved in the project helps to make things easy.
My Project Outline
In relation to the above concept, the following will be applicable to a project I will undertake:
Organize a school event/students initiative
1. Define the Objective of the Project
Conduct an interesting and successful event for the students
Coordinate smoothly among the organizers involved
Manage the project efficiently in accordance with the time and resources available
2. Identifying and sectioning off the phases
The phases in this step include the planning phase, preparation phase, execution phase and the reflection phase.
3. Structuring my Timeline
I will need to:
Develop realistic timeframes for every phase
Divide the work schedule into weekly targets
Start with tackling the most crucial parts of the task
Keep some time margin to account for possible mishaps
Doing so can help in avoiding stressful moments at the end of the process.
Immediate Tips to Apply
Make a clear plan before doing anything else
Put things on paper rather than storing them in your mind
Always communicate frequently with anyone concerned
Always track the progress rather than assessing it at the last minute
Look out for risks early on, no matter how trivial they might seem
Concluding Remarks
Taking this course made it clear to me that managing projects is not limited to large-scale projects managed by companies; rather, this knowledge could be applied in many other scenarios through proper planning and communication.
