Origami Boxes
So I watched the video and read all the accompanying documentation, and I went rogue. I started with cardstock, because it was all I could reach from my chair and I was determined to not move too much to make this thing. After the second box AND lid, I had to get out of my chair to work at my table so I could get better folds. Then I had to make inserts. And then I switched to index cards and made some ink designs. Then I had to make them smaller. Then I grabbed magazine pages to perfect the folds. Then smaller! Now I can't stop making boxes... This is the second night in a row that my partner has come into my studio to see what I was up to, and I was making paper boxes.
After I got the hang of the folds, I was trying all kinds of paper. A couple of these are Post-it notes. Please excuse my mess.
Details of my faves:
This one was cardstock. And before I realized I should score the card.
This is a cardstock box with an index card lid.
These lil' guys are index cards.
This one is from a magazine cover. He might be my favorite. Don't tell the others.
Is there a support group for people who can't stop making paper boxes? I might need the link, or whatever for that.
I didn't do a whole lot of measuring. I just wanted to get to foldin', so I stuck with whole numbers and guesstimating. It didn't work out awesomely, but I got by. I'll dig into the math and geometry another time. Ideally when I've had coffee.
This was fun. I will be making a lot of these. And then trying to figure out what to do with them.
