Notans with Procreate!

Notans with Procreate! - student project

What a fun little project!

I did not know about ‘Notans’! But I love them.

But it is fun. So many Notans to find and fun not all follow the rules! When I learn rules, I always look for ways to break the rules and see what the result is!

I draw the Notans with Procreate. With Procreate it is easy to give a Notan color or to use collage paper to change the black and white Notan and fill it with color!

After my last black and white Notan (The spagetti Notan) I finally know a  way to do it in Procreate! I hope my English is good enough for an explanation!

1. I draw a square and the shapes in the square. I use a  very thin line.

2. The upper layer:  I fill the forms with black. In the other layer I fill the negative space with black.

3. In the layer with the black forms I select the forms to flip down and 'cut and paste’ these forms.

4. I put  put snapping on, flip the black forms down and move the them to the right place just outside the square!

5. I repeat step 3 and 4  until all black forms are on the right place outside the square.

6. I finish with snapping the layers together.

If I wanted to color the Notan with a color or ‘collage paper’, I use clipping masks before I snap the layers together!
