New to OneNote

After being an Evernote user for 10 years I was really gutted when they sold up and the new owners upped the price and made it impossible to to even just move an existing note to another notebook. I could no longer add new notes either. I had paid for the first upgrade, I can't even name it because they kept changing the name of it, for about 7 years prior to the price increase. After the increase I dropped back to the free model and found I could do nothing with it. That left me searching for another note program with a web clipper, because I've used that a lot over the years.
OneNote didn't initially catch my eye, even though I was essentially already paying for it in my 365 subscription. I kind of forgot it was there so I didn't find it until I started researching all myavailable options.
It's 2024 now and the updated version of OneNote is a bit different to the one you show in this video so my set up is different. I liked/was used to the vertical book and note set up in Evernote so that's how I have my notebooks now. The notebooks show as a list on the left with an arrow next to each book to show or hide the list of sections within the stack. To the right of that is the pages in the section and then to the right of that is the page I'm working on. This layout works better for me than the tabs across the top. I tend to have a lot of sections in some of my books so some of the sections are hidden if I do the tabs on the top, where as I can scroll up and down to see them all on the side. It's just quicker to access things that way.
I keep a lot of notes about photography and art. Plans I have, reviews on lenses or art materials I want to try. I've even started clipping a few recipes to try.
The only thing I miss now is Evernote's home page. Hopefully OneNote might come up with something similar at some point. It was nice to be able to have the last note you were working on, plus the sticky notes and anything else you wanted to access quickly, right on the home page.
