I have been doing this for only a few months with the PSE program. Your information on lighting and casting of shadows was very helpful. Most of the time I've just been going by what looks good to me but now I can be more technical and plan my elements a little better.

Making the hair natural is a tall order...great that you took on the challenge!

Thanks Pete, the hair is actually part of the 3D wig that I downloaded from PixelSquid and wasn't really sure what to do to make it look more natural.

Any suggestions for that?

Hey Mamdouh, Working with the 3D hair is going to be a bit tricky to make it look real. The resolution/ detail of the wig is not as sharp as the base picture, so it would take going in and painting in more shadows and highlights in the hair to help it work. I would try blurring the edges just a bit more, so that they look more rounded instead of sharp. Darken the edges of the hair near the neck to get rid of the highlights since the rest of the picture doesn't have as much contrast.  Also look at how the shadows from the wig should follow the contour of her shoulders, arms and hands.

I took this birthday photo of my daughter and turned her into a Pricess using a wig from PixelSquid and tried to make it look natural as much as I could.
