Here is an example of my own 12-month vision, focus areas and goals for my own creative business. 

My 12-month vision

My vision is to build a calm, purposeful business that gives me the freedom to design my own life - doing meaningful, values-driven work that helps small, mission-led businesses with their marketing and strategy. I want to feel proud of what I’m building — something that’s mine, that makes a real difference, and that allows me to live and work in a way that feels balanced, fulfilling, and free. Here’s my vision statement for my creative business.

My 12-month SMART objective

By December 2026, I will have built a calm, values-driven marketing business generating at least £XXXX per month in consistent income from Skillshare, digital products, and aligned client work - allowing me to work independently, with purpose, balance, and creative freedom.

My focus areas

Focus Area 2: Purposeful Visibility & Audience Growth

Annual SMART Goals

  1. Increase LinkedIn following to XXX and Instagram to XXXX by October 2026, maintaining at least a X% engagement rate on average.

  2. Grow email list to XXX subscribers by October 2026 through one lead magnet and consistent monthly newsletters.

  3. Publish at least X long-form content pieces per month (blog posts, newsletters, or videos) that position you as a trusted expert in values-driven marketing.

Example breakdown of quarterly priorities for these goals:

  • Choose 1 primary platform (LinkedIn or Instagram) to focus on.

  • Post 1–2x per week consistently.

  • Create one lead magnet idea and outline it.

  • Restart email list with 1 newsletter per month.

✅ Q2
  • Increase to 2–3 posts per week.

  • Launch your first lead magnet.

  • Start growing email list intentionally (opt-ins from socials).

  • Guest on 1 podcast, collab, or community feature if available.

Example action tasks for Q1 for this focus area and goals:

Month 1: Clarify & Set Up 
  • Choose your primary platform (LinkedIn or Instagram).

  • Write a 1–2 sentence positioning statement:

  • Define 3 content pillars (e.g. Story, Strategy, Behind-the-Scenes).

Profile Optimisation

  • Update your bio/headline to match your values + offer.

  • Add a simple CTA in bio (freebie coming / join my email list).

Content Prep

  • Brain-dump 20 post ideas in one focused session.

  • Write 4 posts and save as drafts.

  • Turn these into 3 blog post ideas
  • Choose blog post #1 and write:

    • Working title

    • H1–H3 outline

    • Key takeaway

Month 2: Gentle Consistency
  • Post 1–2 times per week (8 total for the month).

  • Write blog post #2
  • Track:

Engagement (10 min/day max)

  • Comment meaningfully on 5 aligned accounts per week.

  • Reply to every DM or comment with warmth.

Email

  • Send Newsletter #2 (story + insight + soft CTA).

Month 3: Audience-to-Email Bridge

  • Continue 1–2 posts per week.

Lead Magnet Creation

  • Draft the actual content of your lead magnet.
