Morning Glory Sketch

I've been wanting to paint some Morning Glories for my mom for quite a while.  She loves these flowers, and they just appeared in her backyard a few years ago, growing wild.  I took several reference photos, so this sketch is from one of my photos. I decided to do this sketch as a quick study to help me figure out how I want to paint it later.  The sketch is in alcohol inks and colored pencil.

The sketch above is in my square Ohuhu marker sketchbook, I have a larger size as well.  I use these mainly for alcohol marker and also acrylic paint marker.  The acrylic paint marker allows me to use the backside of the page because it completely covers the bleed-through from the alcohol markers without affecting the look of the alcohol marker piece.  So, I often do the same subject in both mediums for a side-by-side comparison.  Like this one:

And here are most of my sketchbooks, at least the ones I'm currently working in.  I have lots of different sizes and paper types. There are a couple watercolor sketchbooks, a couple mixed media spiralbound ones, and a blackwood journal set that I picked up on a vacation, plus the two Ohuhu marker sketchbooks.

I turned the morning glory sketch into a finished artwork painted in watercolor.  It's my mom's Christmas present this year.
