Mistakes Are Proof That You Are Trying
I loved this phrase for how it captures both imperfection and optimism at the same time (especially as I'm a recovering perfectionist). Here's the word list I built for it:
INSPIRATION IMAGES:
Here's the 9 images I collected that captured the mood/styling I was envisioning:
After seeing them all together, I've noticed that many of them have a retro 1950s vibe, so I think that's the direction I'm going to take with my poster design.
THUMBNAILS:
The last layout is definitely my favorite because it has the least static layout of the bunch. But I also think I'll incorporate a few other elements from the other thumbnails (like the script in the bottom left, which I think is more retro looking).
REFINED SKETCH:
After some trial and error with my refined sketch, this is the finished layout I'm moving forward with (I'll need to tweak the alignment a bit once it's in Procreate):
ADDING COLOR:
The color phase took me quite a bit of time – I picked colors directly from my inspiration images and played with them until I was happy with them. In the end, I chose these 4 colors:
FINAL DESIGN:
I could tweak a design for eternity (and still see some minor changes I could make), but I'm incredibly happy with the way this piece turned out!
