Since I use Affinity Designer rather than Illustrator, my process was sometimes different from Helen's, but with similar results.

The background is a Morrocan Trellis pattern I created in Helen's Exotic Patterns class. The layer blend mode for the heart is Hue. I didn't use a blend mode for the text because I wanted it all white.

The sunrise is a photograph my husband took at Mudjimba beach.
