Melissa, I really like your doggie painting. The proportions and positioning of every element seem perfectly balanced. Your brushwork is impressively skillful, showcasing a high level of mastery. One thought I can suggest is to create more pronounced tonal differences between the lightest and darkest areas. I typically find this easier to visualize when I convert a painting to black and white and then make adjustments as needed. Hi Melissa! Your painting is absolutely beautiful! The eyes are super realistic and full of life. I also think you've done an outstanding job on the fur, especially on the ears. I can almost feel that furry texture. Working with gouache is no easy feat. I recently painted a large piece for my brother's birthday and used a lot of gouache for the first time, which was quite a challenge. It's easier for small details like tiny hairs, whiskers, or highlights, but it can still be quite challenging on bigger areas. The key is finding the right consistency. The paint shouldn't be too thick, as it won't allow for longer brushstrokes and painting whiskers can be difficult. On the other hand, if the paint is too watered down, it will dry transparent and barely be visible. If it's watered down too much, it's actually a better option because after applying it this way, you can always go over it again (and again, if needed) to make the color more opaque and visible.I believe your strength lies in your ability to combine soft and hard edges in a painting in a nice and balanced way. However, you always have to remember that hard edges (apart from repeating elements and strong contrast areas) are something that draws attention, so you have to carefully select areas you want to define with a hard edge. Sometimes, if it's not in the right place, it may draw too much attention. I think the brown "eyebrow area" above the right eye has a bit too hard an edge. It creates a strong contrast with the white fur. Personally, I would use a scrubber brush and soften that edge a little bit. This would shift the focus back to the eyes and the nose, which are the most important elements in this painting. Alternatively, I would add some light brown hairs in that area to create a smoother transition instead of that hard arch shape. But that's really the only thing that drew my attention.I'm also curious about the paper you're using because it looks very textured. Is it rough type paper? Is it 100% cotton? I firmly believe that paper is the most important element in watercolor painting.Overall, I think you did an amazing job on this painting. It's not easy to paint, with lots of details and tricky areas. But your painting truly demonstrates your excellent watercolor skills and your proficiency in working with various watercolor techniques. I'm sure your version of this lovely dog is an inspiration for others. You did an amazing job, and I'm proud of you!

Thank you so much Cris because it lifted my spirits. I am very self-critical of myself and I always want to do better, perhaps too much. I also noticed that the arch of the eyebrows is too marked and I will try to work on the edges making them less clear. The paper I use is 50% Fabriano cotton. I also use Montval Torchon from Canson 270 gsm and sometimes Fabriano Artistico 300 gsm. lately I've been practicing making small landscapes with gouache to practice and improve, but sometimes I use little water and many times it seems like vinyl glue. Lately I've been trying to detach myself from the teacher and try to understand the levels more by looking directly from the photo ,but it's very difficult to build a watercolor without tutorial .my watercolours inspirations are Diana and Gale :) .

It was a hard work with this pictures but I love this lesson about the watercolours tecniques.
