Light and Dark Shapes Practice

Light and Dark Shapes Practice - image 1 - student project

For this project, you will practice using simple light and dark on basic shapes.

Choose one light direction, such as light coming from the top or from one side. Then lightly shade your shapes so the side facing the light stays lighter and the side away from the light becomes darker.

You can draw a circle, an oval, and a box, just like in the lesson. Keep it simple. There is no need to measure or make it perfect. Just notice where the light is and respond to it with gentle shading.

Upload a photo of your drawing and, if you like, add one short sentence about what you noticed while shading.

Example:

“I noticed the shadow always appears on the side away from the light.”

That’s it. Take your time and be kind to your drawing.
