Introduction à l'écriture spencérienne

One of my favorite things about seeing student projects is learning and reading new and interesting paragraphs from the quotes they choose. :-) Your script looks super clean, but can I ask - did you learn Copperplate before? I think I'm seeing some overlaps. ;-)</p>

I learned the Palmer method in primary school in South Africa but stopped using it after immigrating. I have recently rekindled my interest in calligraphy and started with Copperplate. I find that I am now mixing the Copperplate and Spencerian. Is that a problem? Should it be avoided?

My first instinct is to say “not at all!!” This was a spencerian handwriting class, so it’s all about what works for you. I just mentioned it because I noticed it, no negative connotation intended. Having said that, if you were to go into business with your craft, e.g. high end wedding stationery, then some clients might ask for one style over the other. But you can always offer your mix or your particular personal style as well. I think it’s lovely.

Right now it's just a hobby but that is something to keep in mind. Thanks so much for the positive reinforcement. I loved your lesson and its relaxed style.
