Hey Joey! I love these, great job, I particularly like the framing of the doorway in the second one. And yes Colourplus is quite vibrant!So, the 'contrastiness' of these is pretty unavoidable purely because of the subject and lighting, when you're shooting outdoors on a sunny day with harsh shadows, the camera will always have to choose between either exposing for the highlights (as it did nicely in the second one) or the shadows (which will make the highlights too bright). If you shoot in shade, or on a slightly more overcast day, or use diffusion (for a portrait) or indoors, etc, you will get much less harsh lighting and thus the images won't have so much contrast.In the last shot the image is a little over exposed (too bright) so if your camera has it you could use exposure compensation and set it to shoot a little under exposed. Also on a bright day camera's do have limits as to how fast their shutter can go, so you can also darken an image by closing your aperture (increasing the f stop value). If you want to alter these ones slightly, you could edit the scans in software such as Adobe Lightroom, and bring up the shadows a little bit, or highlights/exposure down a little, depending on the image.

Thank you so much for the detailed response, Guy! I was using a pentax point &amp; shoot, so I don't know if I am able to use exposure compensation or changing the f stop values. 

Would you perhaps also be able to expand on the points of the camera choosing between exposing for the highlights and the shadows please? Would it change anything if I change my focal point? Also, does this only happen for when shooting outdoors on a sunny day?

No worries at all! And don't worry about that, it was just on the chance your camera had more manual control.

Sure thing, so in photography in general, a camera has to be setup to capture an exposure at a certain 'brightness' and when the light in a scene is so starkly different (really sunny patch vs really dark shadows) the camera (and photographer depending on the mode haha) will have to make a choice as to whether to expose for the brightest part of an image or the darkest. 

You could even see this on your phone camera, if you point it out a window and tap to focus on the outside, everything inside will go darker (because outside it brighter so the camera is prioritising exposing for that) and similarly if you tap the inside the window will probably go completely white because it's now to bright in order to expose for the dark inside. 

A camera and a films ability to capture the best  of both at once is known as it's dynamic range. But this is more of a feature in Digital cameras which can capture more information in the shadows. Film can too but the scans would need to be edited afterwards or scanned differently.

You'll often see a 'HDR' mode or High Dynamic Range on a phone (which essentially takes two or more photos at different exposures and combines them so everything is lit) 

BUT, whilst people praise HDR, to me it often looks really fake, because that's not how the world looks, there are always patches of light and patches  of dark.

In terms of a solution for you, it may well change if you focused on a different part of the image, but a lot of older film cameras won't meter (meter = camera deciding how bright it is) for the focus point but instead will meter for the centre of the image or an average of the light overall.

But again, the environment is hard to change, if you try shoot later in the day or earlier in the day, the sun will be lower in the sky and will be more diffused, in the middle of the day the shadows are harshest.

Finally, in photography all rules are always made to be deliberately broken and many photographers will seek out mad contrast and shoot on a sunny day at midday for that effect.

Got my first roll of film developed and am loving the vibrancy on the Colourplus! However, the photos seemed to be too contrasted and have too much highlights (to my liking). Are there any tips to prevent that? Thank you :-)
