Kailen Brooks - Story Telling with Character Design Assignments

When Taking on the Projects for each lesson of this course, I take on each lesson with what I was taught, along with some other techniques from previously taken classes.

For the first Project, I made this triangle-heavy dude based on the idea a friend gave to me a while back of "Just make a Dorito shaped person" and so, I made a bunch of silhouettes of a dude made purely out of Triangles, and Called him "Del Dorito". and to give him a personality, I simply gave him all of the traits that come with the triangle. was this a lazy character design? Absolutely. Was it also a funny character design? Again, Absolutely.

For the second Project, I took 3 of my favorite Characters from different pieces of media: Rapunzel from Smash Legends, Asta from Black Clover, and Charlotte from Trials of Mana. I wrote down the descriptions on paper, and since I can't exactly trust my camera to get the written descriptions down to a readable image, I will just repeat them onto here.

Rapunzel, Smash Legends - With a Design primarily focused on Triangles, with Rectangles being a secondary shape, Rapunzel (from Smash Legends) shows her Physical strength, unmoving beliefs, and how resilient She is to reaching Her goal, even showing Her dynamic capabilities, spontaneous personality, and Her drive to reaching Her goal, which is Vengeance. Being constantly lied and experimented on during her upbringing, she is understandably stuck in the past, and thus static in this goal, making Her a very harsh, blunt, and mentally unbalanced person, who can be a danger to be around. Some may mistake her to be Evil, although she is just quick tempered, and understandably very angry.

Asta, Black Clover - With a design primarily focused on Rectangles and Squares, with some Triangles being secondary, His design highlights his Strength, and how he's unmovable, Especially with His goal to become the Wizard King. The little triangles located at his hair and cloak hint at this drive, but Moreso at his constant confidence and energy.  However, Asta has this softness that Rapunzel (from Smash Legends) does not, hinting at his clearly more happy and welcoming state of mind that Rapunzel simply doesn't, and perhaps cannot have. However, Asta is very Stubborn and Blunt, and as he is bolstering with Physical Strength and Energy, he doesn't exactly have the brightest of minds, which could make some consider him as "dull". And Although His combat style is sharp and aggressive (considering as he utilizes Anti-Magic and Swords) He has shown that his Strength is both Physical, and Spiritual.

Charlotte, Trials of Mana - With a design focused on Circles, with some triangles to be found as a secondary, It tells a clear story of how Young, Innocent, and Energetic Charlotte is. With the circle being a heavy influence to her character design, it really hammers down the youth and innocence that she holds, along with making her come off as cute as a side effect. It really shows that whoever designed her wanted us to feel protective of Her. HOWEVER, she is a Fickle little girl, who has shown to be aggressive and sharp with her Tongue. The fickle and sometimes aggressive nature combined with the previously stated youth and innocence renders her emotionally sensitive, as she is seen to be very distraught when news comes out about her loved ones being put into dangerous and uncertain places. Her character design shows that despite that she is heavily inexperienced and sensitive, she holds a good heart.

On the third Project about Proportions, I essentially rolled a 4 sided dice to decide on the 3 that I went for, and on the first, I rolled another 4 sided dice to see what shape to use, and It ended up choosing squares, so, I have attempted to create that dipping effect with a square-like approach in mind, but after it resulted in what I deemed a failure to meet the criteria I was trying to meet, I declined the shape idea, and just focused on making characters based on the Proportions the 4 sided dice decided for me.

In the Lesson about Body Language, I put another character I have made in previous lessons into a situate, that being he's in a road trip, at the passenger seat. In fact, it took me a bit to figure this idea out, and I had to pull up a situation generator online to come up with it for the sake of the assignment. but regardless, I made him do 3 Reactions: the first is that he's bored and tired, and he's just sitting there waiting for something interesting to come up, the second is him pointing at something into the distance. The 3rd is him panicking, probably at something Dangerous or Unexpected.

And for the final Project, Hey, that's all written too! So, hey, there's more typing for me, and more reading for you! I rolled an 8 sided dice to select Grassland, and Used a Time Period Generator to get the Romantic Era, did some research here and there, and like that, I have made a world. So, here's what I got down for this final Project..
Geography: Ecosystem: Grassland. Climate: Temprate, 20-90 degrees, Weather: Moderate rainfall, Pleasant Sun, Occasional Storms. Wildlife: Bugs: Grasshoppers, Leafhoppers, Crickets, Spiders. Small animals: Mice, Rabbits, Dogs, Owls, Sparrows, Snakes, Foxes. Medium Animals: Wolves, Deer, Hawks, Lions. Big Animals: Horses, Zebras, Rhinos.

Society: History: Period: Romantic Era (1770-1850). Science/Tech: Steam engines, Electro magnetics, Photography, Water frames, Steam Locomotives. Politics: Social emancipation (focus on the people as an individuals and as a whole). Nationalism (Political Unity of the People) Revolution (Go against the unfair government) Culture: Philosophy: Emphasize with the Individual, emotion, and Imagination. Reject the Stresses of Social Conventions. Architecture: Medieval-esque, Steampunky. Fashion: Retro futuristic, with various Coats, Skirts, Dresses, Corsets, Gloves, and Pants, along with Gothic decoration, and attires Borrows from past centuries. Social Classes: Upper Class: Aristocrats with lots of wealth, power, and Status. Middle Class: Commonfolk, Skilled Labor. (Doctors, Lawyers, Shopkeepers, esc.) Lower Class: Working Class with unskilled Labor, Hunter, Gatherers, and Cyborgs. Cuisine: Chocolates, Fresh Citrus, Roast meat with bread, assortments of nuts, sweetmeats, pastries, wines, truffles, and coffees are the common cuisine for the average citizen. Entertainment: Various forms of arts such as Opera, Theater, Concerts are common, however the upper class have parties and social gatherings.

Economy: Resources: Water: 4/5. Forestry: 2/5 Oil and Gas: Not needed, as everything is Steam powered. Fishing: 2/5. Not too many places for fish to be at. Agricultural: 5/5. Grasslands are great for their fertile soil. Clear air: 3/5. Although plentiful, some air is dirtied due to Industrial Processes from past generations. Manufacturing: Energy/Electrical: 5/5. A consistent source of water (rain) means a consistent source of steam-power. Need any more explanation? Food/Consumables: 4/5. Hunting Wildlife and Excellent fertile soils create a good source of food and consumables. Vehicles/Chemicals: The main source of transport is Horse and Buggy, and Steam powered Trains. However, The Upper Class can use flying machines as a sign of status. Handcrafts/Textile: 3/5. Due to Romantism being a major factor of society, , the hunting for fur and leather is a taboo concept, and for it is rarely done. For that The wildlife to further evolve past what was "normal", and thus, the hire for specialized hunters and gatherers to go out to deal with the new threatening wildlife for resources for new handcrafts and textiles. And yet, despite this, the Act of doing so is considered Taboo by the Majority. Infrastructure: Public Spaces: Towns, Town halls, Dorm halls, So on, so Fourth. Telecommunication:  Wired Message Systems, Connected around Indoor areas such as homes, ships, and dorms. However, Hunters and Gatherers have Telephones that are essentially Retro Futuristic cellphones to call for back-up or to be sent to home base.

And that is all! Thank you so much for baring with me and all of these walls of texts and what have you.  ...this has been the most text-heavy Submission I have done since I started on Skillshare, with two segments of purely writing and Typing. But nonetheless, thank you for teaching me these techniques!
