Hi Angela! Improvising is the best. Your pen work (which is not waterproof) brought in a very interesting effect of smudged ink, that could be deliberate. It adds a weathered look and feel that makes your sketch just gorgeous! I'm obsessed by values and shadows.... if you paint bolder shadows I thing you could add even more depth to your sketch!
