I love high contrast photos like this! I always look for the to use in my classes. You did an amazing job.  Not only technically, but capturing a genuine and intimate emotion. That's exactly what makes this a compelling portrait.  I love the cross as well, it tells us a story. Did you place it this way or did it fall all perfectly on its own?
