I really like both concepts you have! Without knowing a little more about the company I feel like the second icon gives me more of a feeling of 'hope' and feels more iconic and versatile especially seeing the patterns created. Would love to see some color variations on that one! The first one reminds me a lot of the Subaru logo if Aaron Draplin got a hold of it, so I get a more outdoorsy/Pacific Northwest  vibe from it. I'd maybe move down the stripes a bit to where the bottom flat line was not visible since it's the odd man out with the other having part of the valley effecting them. That'll also give a little bit of nice negative space for the sky to show a little more.

Thanks for the engagement on these two entries. Your insights are backed with some good thoughts. 
That's funny how the bold lines and choice of orange now has such a pull to a Draplin design and all he represents.

I think that both of them are great. However the first logo concept meets the word association a bit better. I can clearly see the "valley" part with that one touch of spark of "hope" on top. Also, after you added the duotone scheme to the logo, it really brought it to life. I had to sit and think about this though, because both logos look quite impressive. You did a great job on them.
