Cats! I knew I wanted to do this pattern with a more hand drawn feel to it, so I experimented with my sketches. I used live trace in illustrator and realized that Elizabeth was right—so much needed to be redrawn or tweaked and I spent a ton of time removing anchor points and smoothing curves. In the end, I settled for a combination of both redrawn and traced. I also stroked a lot of the vector shapes with a pencil brush to achieve a more hand-drawn quality.
