Hi everyone,

Here is the portrait of the girl and cat that I was illustrating in class.

Starting with writing down creative ideas and gathering reference photos, we then begin drawing in the sketchbook.

Next, here’s the refined sketch made on the iPad in Procreate.

You may notice the changes that I’ve made to the original sketch. The cat’s eyes are now closed so that the girl becomes the focus of the illustration.

Next we pick three main colors and create a Color Rough, then block in our colors.

I finished the project with layering textures, drawing the girl’s face and hair. At last I added meaningful and playful details that complete the character’s story.
